The German brand Sinn is known for producing watches characterized by their technology and high functionality. At Baselworld 2019, they released a tribute to their hometown, Frankfurt am Main, that takes functionality to a new level. What’s more, they also announced a limited edition of their popular pilot’s watch and two new diving chronographs. That gives us plenty to talk about.
Sinn 6012 Rose Gold Anniversary
Most Sinn watches are meant to serve as effective tools in all sorts of circumstances. Unlike these other models, the Financial District Watches collection does so with a more classic style. Since its introduction in 1999, it has become an integral part of the Sinn catalog. This latest model, Sinn 6012 Rose Gold Anniversary, celebrates 20 years of the Financial District Watch. It was presented alongside a new version of the standard 6012 timepiece.
The two watches have much in common. The Sinn 6012 (a.k.a. the Frankfurt Financial District Watch) has a moon phase indicator, a complete calendar, and 60-minute counter for tracking the elapsed minutes. Both new watches are 41.5 mm in diameter and powered by the Sinn SZ06 movement. The mother-of-pearl moon discs have a beautiful matte finish and further enhance the elegance of these timepieces. In another nod to Sinn’s history and hometown, the movement’s rotor features an engraving of the Frankfurt skyline.
The standard Sinn 6012 is made of stainless steel and comes with both a steel bracelet as well as a black leather strap. It costs €4,250 (approx. $4,800). The anniversary edition pairs an 18-karat rose gold case with black and cognac leather straps, so you can choose the right strap for the occasion. The 6012 Rose Gold Anniversary can be yours for €14,950 (approx. $16,900) and is limited to a run of 50 pieces.
Sinn 206 St Ar and Sinn 206 ARKTIS
Sinn also presented two new versions of the Sinn 206 at Baselworld 2019: the 206 St Ar and the 206 ARKTIS. The Sinn 206 St Ar has a connection to the Sinn 203, specifically the 203 St and 203 Ti Ar. The 203 Ti Ar from 1995 was the first watch to feature Sinn’s Ar-Dehumidifying Technology. The 206 is a contemporary take on the classic 203 chronograph. For the new model, Sinn has upped the case size from 41 to 43 mm. Furthermore, Sinn decided to keep the look of the screw-down push-pieces even though this is no longer necessary thanks to the Sinn D3-system.
The 206 St Ar comes in stainless steel with a black dial. The only choice you have to make is whether you’d prefer a black leather strap, a blue or black silicone strap, or a stainless steel bracelet. The version with a leather strap demands €3,240 (approx. $3,700). Those with a bracelet or silicone strap require an investment of €3,410 (approx. $3,900).
The 206 ARKTIS is based on the Sinn 203 ARKTIS from 1999 – Sinn’s first diving chronograph with temperature resistance from -49 to +176°F (–45 to +80°C). This timepiece is also celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019, which is why Sinn has released the 206 ARKTIS II.
The 206 ARKTIS II features the same functions as its predecessor from 1999 and a blue sunburst dial. It also comes with your choice of one of three bands. You can get the model with a leather strap for €3,490 (approx. $4,000). There are two options for both the steel bracelet and the silicone strap. Regardless of which you choose, plan on spending €3,660 (approx. $4,100).
Sinn 104 St Sa A G
The final timepiece Sinn introduced at Baselworld 2019 was the Sinn 104 St Sa A G, a limited edition of their popular Sinn 104 pilot’s watch. This version combines a 41-mm steel case with a beautiful metallic-green dial. Watches with a steel case, green dial, and black or brown leather strap have been enjoying increased popularity among watch enthusiasts as of late. The 104 St Sa A G is limited to a run of 500 pieces. On a leather or silicone strap, it costs Sinn €1,250 (approx. $1,400). Set aside €1,510 (approx. $1,700) for the version on a steel bracelet. That’s some serious value for money. Its quality, classic looks, and limited run bode well for this watch’s future.
Sinn has proven, once again, that they are capable of producing attractive, technological masterpieces at fair prices. This is sure to be a recipe for success for the German brand.
