As always, this brand week has us devoting our full attention to one particular company. In this case, it’s a brand that has had a reputation for high-quality chronographs since its foundation in 1875. A brand with an unmatched tradition in the realm of motorsport: TAG Heuer. Some TAG Heuer timepieces have attained fame and glory well beyond the brand’s own fan base. The TAG Heuer Monaco is one such timepiece.
Many watches achieve fame after being worn by a celebrity or two. This was certainly the case for the TAG Heuer Monaco. Steve McQueen famously wore this timepiece on screen in the film Le Mans. If it weren’t for that appearance on the silver screen, the Monaco – even with its angular case design and revolutionary movement technology – may have never achieved the cult status it enjoys today. What you may not know about this watch, however, is that it wasn’t just racing toward the finish line in the film. The Monaco was also in a race to become the first automatic chronograph on the market. This history is the dream of modern-day marketing copywriters – storytelling at it’s finest. But what’s the story with the current version of the Monaco? We’ve zoomed into take a closer look at the past and present of this famous chronograph.
We’re interested to hear if the TAG Heuer Monaco sets your heart racing or if another chronograph has caught your eye. Share your thoughts in the YouTube comments!
